On the 4th of May 2021, Graham Bizley led an interesting discussion on reducing carbon emissions and energy use in buildings. It has been revealed that householders account for 1/4 of carbon dioxide emissions; the government have pledged that this must be cut by 80% by 2050. But how can we achieve this? This can be achieved by the use of insulation, triple glazing, a passive house system, solar shading or photovoltaic emission heaters. You could also use air or ground heat pumps. Ultimately, the climate crisis puts a responsibility on all of us as architects to ensure that our work is not detrimental to the environment.
